There’s a certain irony that this 2019 post of mine now describes the site I originally wrote it for 🫠

Hey Fediverse!

The @owncast project could really use some help! 🙏

At the moment the lead dev @gabek is having to handle an awful lot at once. The platform would be much more sustainable if there were more people on the team.

Everyone who wants to help is welcome, but of course there are some specific areas where help is especially welcome:

Please get in touch with @owncast or @gabek if you want to help out!

For those who don't know, OwnCast is a Twitch-style livestreaming and chat service for the Fediverse. You can follow OwnCast accounts from Mastodon etc and you will see a post in your timeline when the account goes live. There's a site about it at and a directory of featured streams at

Boosts welcome!

We are still a massive €254 short for the server bills for,,, and some more free open source services :sad_cat:

Hopefully next month I can pay most of it with a new job but that doesn't help now..

If you can, please think about supporting me in paying the bills for the various #Fediverse services I host for free❤️

If not me perhaps your own server admin :cat_hug_triangle::fediverse:

You can hide your follows and follower lists on Mastodon if you want to.

Log in through the website, go to Edit Profile > Hide Your Social Graph, tick the box and click Save Changes.

You will still be able to see these lists when you're logged in, but other people will see a message saying "This data isn't available".

@thinkprivacy do you need to use a third-party fiscal host? Joining as an "independent collective" should let you take advantage of their financial tools and transparent expense logging with just a linked bank account via Stripe. Unless you're looking for some special legal status like @privacyguides. I believe it's even free nowadays, which is a much nicer deal for collectives than it used to be.

@thinkprivacy what other sources of funding have you explored? Is your Open Collective profile a recent addition? Because it does not seem to be configured to accept donations properly.

Since one notable privacy site recently went full sellout and started promoting anything with a wallet, affiliate links seem particularly sus lately. Regardless of your policies there will always be people who assume you're only listing a service because they paid, up to you whether you want to deal with that.

@adam hey I started that same move a few weeks ago! I like Sourcehut a lot so far, it's the first good forge I tried that doesn't feel like a GitHub knockoff 😆

@kate this post is how I found out the queen died lmao

@henryistaken but don’t you want an excuse to return to Portugal?

@adam it’s nice, although I do like your other code of conduct too:

Place your bets: Because the iPhone 14 has the same A15 chipset as the iPhone 13, will the 13 get a bonus year of updates to get the same amount as the 14, or will the 14 get one more year of updates than the 13 arbitrarily (i.e. the Google Pixel method) despite being virtually the same hardware?

@pixelcode I can't switch until Android has a private and good Health and Fitness ecosystem tbh

RIP the last mini flagship smartphone. Faith in humanity lost

@danarel preloading music worked out so well for Apple in the past lol

@henryistaken Realistically it's 50/50 if we're really being honest.
